comment: Hello:
I accidentally chanced upon this website. My late father (Candido aka Deding
Santiago Vitug) was descended from Victor Vitug and Maria Santiago of Lubao. He
had four other legitimate brothers namely Leonardo (Narding) ,
Juanito , Francisco (Kiting) and Donaciano (Doning).
Best regards,
Chelo
I met A Victor Vitug Long time ago and he is my uncle the youngest among the
siblings of Julian Vitug. He worked at the NBI. Probably he is in the 80's, if
still alive. I hope he still is. I am known to the Vitugs as Pinggoy. If you are
related to Justice Jose Vitug, Romy Vitug we are first blood relative. If it
happened that you re not, we are still relative just being a Vitug originated
from Lubao.

comment: Thank you for this website. I was looking for a very special friend of
mine and when i came across with this website I took chances of searching for
the person name on this site. I'm so glad I found it here. I found my very dear
friend and former immediate head Ms. Linda Vitug... i hope Due, Masbang, Lising
and Pamintuan Clan can also create a web site like this so we can find our long
lost relatives and friends..
Hello, That is great. At least it served the purpose of
this website to bring relatives and close friends together. This website does
not have an interactive properties, I suggest you
check our Facebook page.
I was looking at our website and started making me take
a deeper look at our ancestor. I learned the Spanish kept really good detail of
names/household for tax purposes so we would be able to get a detail report of
our ancestors.
Some Vitug wrote on your website that Vitug was
Indonesian in origin but the guy who supposedly brought the name to the
Philippines is Emmanuel Velasquez Vitug - doesn't sound too Indonesian so I
would question that assertion. Most Filipinos of Spanish descent are actually
Basque - hence why names aren't typically "Spanish" sounding. Basque is a region
in Spain and speaks a completely different language. Some were Andalusia's which
have more Mediterranean features. Others were Catalan (where our ancestor hails
from - most of which are French Spaniard) and a few actual Castilians (central
Spain).
In 1850s, the Vice royal of the Philippines, ordered
that all people take on an approved surname from a book that was published
called Catalogo alfabetico de appellidos which used cities, location, plants,
animals as acceptable Spanish surnames. most Filipinos chose surnames with de
los Santos, dela Cruz, Villanuevo, Cristo, etc but there were too many of them
to keep track in tax records. Others who were of chinese descent chose names
that still meant something in Spanish like Pampengco - sounds Spanish but in
reality it was Ko Pam Pien...even our word for dog is chinese A-so.
Also interesting names like Roxas, Salazar, etc are
indigenous American Indian names hispanized.
What is interesting my Mom's ancestors may have chosen
the Latin name Acedera which is a plant. Acedera isn't a Spanish word but is
actually Latin (Roman language). Only Acederas are from the Philippines and a
town was founded in Spain, so, some family may have been up in Spain and started a
town hundreds of years ago.

Hey Vitugs...I'm completing my family tree and
pretty much close to having it done. My family is of the Portel family line and
looking if any other Vitugs are direct lineage to the same line from Capt.
Ferdinand Portel or Delores Portel (French Spaniards) and most of family left
after 1899 resettled back to Barcelona, Spain. Also attached a picture of my
grandfather...who served in the US Navy during WWII in Phils - my family tree is
completed w/ my grandmother Lucia Astillasa but I believe he had some other
children outside of the family we aren't aware of and want to reconnect. If you
are a Vitug with French Spaniard blood than we may be closely related. :-)
